Week 5 - Experimental materials used in life drawing

Updated: May 9, 2023

This was a fun, exciting workshop, where we used a variety of materials to create images of the life model, for example we used electrical tape to highlight the movement and poses of the model.

I had never thought to use tape to create an image, but it makes perfect sense. With the angles of the tape, I was able to make interesting geometric angles of the life models. I just put my all into trying to get the image that I wanted without giving too much thought as to what it might look like in the end.

I think this is an important part of the creative process - not to have a clear vision of what you want to produce at the end. Because that doesn't encourage too much experimentation, what it does do is repeat the same image-making.

Experimentation, I learnt in this session, is about choosing tools or materials will help you achieve exciting, loose results, which have much more creativity and flair.

I think this was the case in this session, where I used electrical tape and cut out shapes using scissors to create images in the style of Matisse, for example. This was an exhausting session, but a fun one!
